Built into the body is a complete, rigid cage of steel ring-shaped frames that have been further strengthened in the new model. The same is true of the front and rear bumper beams, as well as the upgrade side impact beams in the doors. SRS twin airbags are standard in the front of the Forester, while new side airbags with head protection are options fitted to the X All-Weather and XT models.
